Thanks to the contribution awarded by The Chamber of Commerce of Milan Monza Brianza Lodi as part of the call for proposals “Bike to Work & City Logistics 2024”, Techinnova S.p.A. has launched the development of the B.E.S.T. project – Bike, Energy, Sustainability, Techinnova: Corporate Welfare for Sustainable Mobility, an initiative dedicated to improving the safety, accessibility, and sustainability of cycling mobility within the corporate ecosystem.

The project responds concretely to the daily mobility needs of employees, collaborators, and startuppers, with a dual objective: to reduce emissions associated with commuting and business travel, and to promote a healthier, more conscious, and sustainable lifestyle.

Through the integration of smart technologies, advanced security systems, and dedicated infrastructure, B.E.S.T. introduces a corporate welfare model focused on soft mobility, individual well-being, and applied innovation.

Development of an integrated system for corporate bicycle mobility, based on a shared fleet of bikes and e-bikes, intelligent safety devices, dedicated charging infrastructure, and a digital platform for managing and monitoring journeys

Objectives

The B.E.S.T. project aims to significantly enhance the safety, usability, and sustainability of bicycle commuting for Techinnova employees and collaborators.

The main objectives include:

1. Promoting everyday bicycle use: The project provides a shared fleet consisting of traditional bicycles and e-bikes that can be used both for commuting and for professional travel within the urban area.

2. Increasing road safety: Through a series of collaborations, the project integrates advanced safety systems such as:

  • automatic turn signals
  • dynamic brake lights
  • smart locking/unlocking systems
  • GPS-based anti-theft tracking
  • devices for intuitive signaling of maneuvers and hazardous situations•
  • devices that intuitively signal maneuvers and potential hazards.

3. Promoting sustainable and conscious mobility: The availability of bicycles, combined with recommended routes through the TRATOO App, promotes environmentally friendly mobility choices and supports personal well-being.

4. Supporting an innovative corporate welfare model: The initiative aims to improve quality of work life through dedicated infrastructures, secure parking areas, maintenance spaces, charging services, and specific insurance coverage.

      Proposed solution

      The B.E.S.T. project is based on the integration of hardware and software solutions designed to offer a complete, intuitive, and user-friendly mobility ecosystem.

      The fleet consists of different types of bicycles, including muscle-powered and electric models, designed to meet a variety of needs: short urban routes, daily commutes, longer journeys, or routes with varying levels of difficulty. All vehicles are designed to integrate smart features that facilitate riding and increase safety, such as lights for automatic signaling of maneuvers or tracking systems that allow for more precise fleet management.

      From a software perspective, the project involves integration with the TRATOO app, which allows users to identify safe cycle routes, monitor bicycle usage, and, if necessary, assist users in organizing their journeys. The aim is to create synergy between physical means of transport and technological tools, making it easier and more natural to get around on two wheels.

      Infrastructure and corporate spaces

      A significant part of the project involves creating corporate environments suitable for hosting and supporting sustainable mobility. In fact, Techinnova has planned the installation of two charging stations: one in the underground garage, mainly dedicated to e-bikes, and one in the offices, which can also be used to charge digital devices such as smartphones and navigation systems.

      The garage also features a secure bicycle parking area, equipped with the necessary racks and designed to ensure safe storage of bicycles. The company laboratory has been equipped with a maintenance area complete with tools and equipment for small repairs and cleaning operations. A support area has also been set up inside the offices with a charging station for mobile devices, an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), and a first aid kit.

      Expected Impact

      B.E.S.T. aims to generate a positive impact at both the corporate and urban levels. Increased bicycle use helps reduce traffic and emissions, improving air quality and the livability of the city. From a corporate perspective, the initiative fosters a work environment that prioritizes people’s well-being, promoting a culture of soft mobility based on safety and shared responsibility.

      Thanks to dedicated facilities and the direct involvement of users, the project also aims to consolidate more sustainable habits, raising awareness of the benefits of cycling in everyday life.
