The campaign of Venice Light(Y)ear, the special purpose vehicle created by Infinityhub (a holding company specialised in the green energy sector) to upgrade the energy and lighting technology of San Servolo, one of the most prestigious islands in the Metropolitan City of Venice, has closed with extraordinary success.
The equity crowdfunding campaign launched on CrowdFundMe by Venice LightYear (Vly) has raised €100,250 from more than 40 new members: double the minimum target to guarantee funding for the redevelopment of San Servolo Island.

The academic and conference centre on the island of San Servolo is a strategic location for the city, attracting professors, students and conference delegates who will be staying in Venice for several days and guaranteeing a good economic return for the area,” explains Saverio Centenaro, Saverio Centenaro, delegate of the metropolitan mayor Luigi Brugnaro, explains: “The island is home to the Venice International University VIU, a section of the Academy of Fine Arts, the International College of Ca’ Foscari, the Franca and Franco Basaglia Foundation, the Europlanning Training Centre and the Neuroscience School of Advanced Studies, all prestigious institutions that, together with San Servolo S. r.l., are located here. r.l., bring numerous events, master’s degrees and international congresses to the island and therefore to Venice“.

The redevelopment will be carried out through very specific actions: lighting, hence the project name Venice Light(Y)ear, which “opens the space-time door to light”, converting 1934 lighting points to LED technology, with a 60% saving in energy costs; six photovoltaic gazebos, for the first time in Venice with the placet of the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici, which will be integrated into the island’s extraordinary forms of nature and art; sections of the B(Y)S 3. 0, e-dock, the first public briccola for recharging electric boats in collaboration with the innovative Venetian startup e-concept, and much more.

As a Professional Investor, Techinnova is among the investors who believe in and will take an active part in the Venice Light(Y)ear project, together with Global Power Service S.p.A., Pandora Green S.p.A., Gruppo STG S.r.l., BSS-Italia, the ONLUS Sorrisi d’Africa, as well as dozens of citizens and students from Ca’ Foscari University.

Techinnova’s primary interest,” says Managing Director Riccardo Roggeri, “was to invest in a project that envisages a technological model based on IoT systems and Smart Cities that enhances the cultural and architectural heritage of the territory, with a resilient approach and improving the wellbeing of citizens. All this according to a model of targeted and multi-sector investments useful for creating a national network of competences, which we have been building since 2015 with our Innogrow acceleration programme“.

The project follows a symbology – concludes Massimiliano Braghin, President and CEO of InfinityHub S.p.A. that is not a symbol of redevelopment but something that even leads to another dimension. Symbolic is the opposite of diabolical, and today sustainable progress must not simply bring together men and women, but burning minds and hearts, because only by joining forces can we go far“.
